The building was designed with the aim to produce a dynamic Architectural form that works with the site typography and acts as a strong landmark/gateway to the complex. To achieve this idea the building has been arranged into three elements that allow the wet side facilities to be separated from the ten court sports hall and yet linked by the third central element consisting of the entrance and ancillary areas.
The contract features a 25-metre, eight–lane swimming pool, learner pool and the sports hall with eight badminton courts, fitness suit, two aerobic studios, two squash courts and ancillary facilities.

The location of this new sports complex high above the town of St. Ives in Cornwall, required sensitive and imaginative design. The building houses a six lane 25 metre competition swimming pool, and learner pool, together with a fitness suite, exercise studio and cafe. The design of the building is simple, and to respond to the location the structural grid is splayed to create a faceted building envelope. The project was completed in July 2001 after one of the largest Sports Lottery Awards in the South West. It has been recognised for 'good value for money and is already proving to be a great success.
