the glassblowing house

The award winning building, located on the quay side of the barbican, was formally used as a glass blowing house for public exhibitions relating to the adjacent Dartington glass retail outlet situated in the former fish market. The change of use into a restaurant was sensitively considered to maintain the external appearance of the building within a conservation area. The only exception was the redesign of the harbour side glazing offering panoramic views across the historical Barbican quay. Internally the restaurant was sympathetically designed to provide a contemporary interior displaying many interesting and inspiring local works of art with a theatre style kitchen catering for 70 covers.
